We
are glad you have come to learn more about us and the
Mass. St. James’ strives to be a place where people of all
walks of life may come and experience the presence and great
love of God. Through our offering of liturgy and music, we
hope to be drawn more closely into God’s presence and to be
inspired to become a force for God’s reconciling love in the
world.
The
liturgy is very important to us, as it is here that we are
drawn most intimately into the heart of God. We worship in
the Catholic tradition within the Anglican or Episcopal
Church. The Catholic tradition is marked by the use of
color and music and incense to enfold our whole person, all
of our senses in the experience of worship. The Liturgy
comes from
The Book of Common Prayer
which is the liturgical text of the Episcopal Church. Music
comes from the Episcopal
Hymnal 1982
and from
Lift Every Voice and Sing II.
At first visit the liturgy may seem difficult to follow, so
we invite you to relax and experience the liturgy first
before worrying too much about finding the right page.
Several of our parishioners are available to help you.

Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Marriage
The Sacrament of Holy Baptism is celebrated at the Parish Solemn Mass on designated
days after consultation with the Rector. To find the next scheduled Baptismal Sunday
and arrange for a time of preparation, please call the church office.
Confirmation Classes are held for the youth as needed, generally
in alternate years. Inquirers' Classes and Confirmation/Reception
Classes for adults are held each year. Marriages: The
Sacrament of Marriage is taken very seriously in the Episcopal
Church. For people who seek to enter the sacramental union of
husband and wife, it is expected that you are communicants of this
or another parish. You are expected to attend Mass regularly in
preparation for entering this Sacramental relationship. There are
preparation sessions required. If you have had a previous marriage which
ended in divorce, permission for remarriage must be obtained
from the Bishop.
